Our History

In September 2002 Rick Moss and created Mesa's only three weapon fencing center. Rick recognized the need for a full-service fencing center in the East Valley and has worked hard to make his vision a reality.

2008 Florin Paunescu takes over as club owner.  Thanks Florin for all your hard work.

The building, a former karate studio that had seen better days, needed a good bit of work. Wood floors were installed, walls were painted, strips were designed on the floor, electric boxes and scoring machines were set up. Flags, representing the home country of our fencers and coaches, were hung from the rafters. Mirrors and a work bench were installed, and bleachers were put in place so that everyone could watch the action. After much hard work and with the help of many friends, the Arizona Fencing Center was ready!

As the club has grown, we have seen many changes - we have expanded our space and added additional electric strips. In March of 2004, AFC was pleased to announce the addition of Adrian Colcisca and Florin Paunescu, both fencing Masters and nationally and internationally recognized coaches.

 With the addition of these fine coaches, the caliber of coaching at AFC has far exceeded our expectations. Adrian and Florin bring a new meaning to fencing in Arizona, making AFC Arizona's strongest three weapon club and Arizona an emerging force in US fencing.
